Just revived newsletter form Smar-Azure with announcement of new major version of their sail design software. Not much info about enhancements so contact Smar-Azure for details.
No I do not use Azure software. I have tested demo version more then 2 years ago. Then it was missing some useful features which are available in SailPack. Also then SailPack offered much more flexibility (for example you can create tall ship square sail quite easily in SailPack or add as many mast you need, I am not sure is that possible with Azure project). In my opinion SailPack is more robust software but with so many options it is less user friendly (but with correctly setup templates is can be very user friendly - and fast for production).
Regarding Azure CFD and structural analysis I had some problems with running analysis with demo version (structural part). There was panel code for CFD which is very fast but usable only for upwind. Structural part was slower (but reasonable) and I had problems to get solution (what I can remember, some boundary constraints should be set the way which does not correspond to reality to get solution). So my conclusion was, nice to see (put on website) but questionable will you be able to optimize you design with it.
This is my point of view from just few days of testing demo, so it is not really objective. I believe that many people are very happy using it and that Sabrina and her team are very good in customer support.
Off topic, much better place for this kind of questions is on forum.opensailmakers.org which is currently dead (empty) forum but I hope it will attract more users.
Thanks Boris for the reply. The forum is a nice and original idea for all sail designer. I registered to the site this summer but is not very alive and refer to blog.opensailmakers site. I am interested in sail shape under load and the final flow aerodynamics so your post on Azure was intrigued. This is a very difficult but wonderful field. Thanks again
Do you use Azure software?
